Lander Families,

We’ve officially completed our first week of the 2026-2027 school year, and what a fantastic week it has been! We had a pep rally today to introduce the idea of “GRIT” to our students and what it means to show grit in challenging situations. Our theme at Lander this year is, “Powered by Grit!” It is on our staff t-shirts for the year as well as the student t-shirts they’ll get later, and all over the building on banners. We will be celebrating our students showing grit at school, and would love to involve families in celebrating our students at home as well. Families can fill out a quick google form that is linked in the newsletter below, to share how their student showed grit in a challenging time outside of school. Teachers will recognize them here at school and students will be able to choose a cool laptop/water bottle sticker with some of our Lander “Powered by Grit” images.

Our teachers have been busy establishing strong foundations, getting to know their students, and creating welcoming environments where every child feels valued and excited to learn. We’re already seeing new friendships forming, and a true sense of community is developing.

During these first two weeks, Mr. Samber and I will meet with our school community to talk about a Positive School Environment. We will review our 4 P’s (Prompt, Prepared, Polite, and Productive), and discuss what we want our school community to look, and feel like. Please continue to talk to your child about the meaning of Prompt, Polite, Prepared, and Productive, and most importantly what each of those adjectives “look” like in a school setting.

We had our first school assembly on Thursday, 8/28 where students learned about our Cookie Dough Fundraiser. Our students did an outstanding job following the 4 P’s and showing respect to our guest speaker. Information about the fundraiser should have come home with your child, and we have included additional information in the newsletter below.

If you have not already done so, please consider joining our Parent Teacher Group (PTG). Our PTG is always planning and preparing wonderful events for our school community and welcomes all of our families to join. Please see below for information on how to join the group.

Just a reminder to complete the On-line Registration form (OLR), in order to ensure that your child can engage in technology and attend field trips. Please note that as field trips come up, If your child’s OLR is not complete, they will not be able to attend.

If there is a change in dismissal for your child, please email the office and teacher, or call the office no later than 1:00pm that day.

Our Student Success Center helps students in grades K – 8 improve their academic skills and subject comprehension, all for free. Students who participate in the program receive homework assistance and/or academic enrichment from each of our centers' staff in English language arts, math, reading, science and social studies. An Open House will be on September 8 from 4:00-6:30 for anyone interested in the program. It runs Monday through Thursday, 4:00-6:30. Registration is required.
